Player of the week
My pick for this week is Davy Klaassen. The Werder Bremen midfielder scored twice in a 5-1 win against Paderborn, a potential relegation 6 pointer. Werder Bremen were not in total control of the game, which is against to what the scorline depicts. They only got 5 shots on target, which all ended up in back of the net. This only goes to show how clinical Klaassen was in front of goal in the match. Klaassen although has had a start-stop career at Bremen, after having an absolute nightmare at Everton. Everybody knows the quality this player has, but he needs to show it more often. Now they have another relegation 6 pointer after their game against Bayern, and Klaassen will be expected to hit the same heights he did against Paderborn.
Player to look out for
Krzysztof Piatek, the wonder kid from Poland who set the Serie A on fire, by showing great performances with Genoa, earned a move to AC Milan the following year. Though his stay in Milan was short and this winter transfer window saw him move to Hertha Berlin. Termed as the next Lewandowski, it was seen as if he was following the footsteps of him, by playing in the Bundesliga and was expected to succeed. But things didn’t go as planned, he has had a below par season by scoring 5 goals in 13 games for the Berlin side. But with 2 goals in the last three games, he looks to have found his feet and will be looking to end the season on a high. As Hertha Berlin faces Freiburg, it’s going to be a tough game for him and his side, you should keep an eye on him as to what magic he can produce.
Matches to look forward to
Surely, the centre of attraction this midweek is Bayern Munich against Werder Bremen. Bayern Munich are just a win away from clinching the Bundesliga title for 8th time in a row. With the likes of Robert Lewandowski and Thomas Müller back in the squad from suspension, it look like the celebrations might just start after the game, in Munich and all over the globe, for the Bayern Munich fans (while following social distancing of course!). But this won’t be as easy of a task as it seems, because Bremen are desperate to get points as to avoid relegation. This was seen in the game between Dortmund and Düsseldorf, how Dortmund were finding it really difficult to secure a win against Düsseldorf, who are in the same position as Bremen. Bremen will be highly spirited after their 5-1 win against Paderborn, and would be looking to delay Bayern’s celebrations but, it looks very unlikely that Bayern will let an upset happen, considering the form they are in and the experience they have in their ranks.
